ANIMATION ART DIRECTION CASE STUDY
NORTHROP GRUMMAN VIDEO VIGNETTES
Northrop Grumman is one of the world’s leading space, aeronautics, defense and cyberspace companies. While exhibiting at events throughout the year, Northrop showcases a wide breadth of solutions to a diverse audience.
With such a wide portfolio, telling each product story in a dynamic way posed a challenge on show floor, especially with so many companies vying for attendee attention. I, as Associate Creative Director at RES, encouraged Northrop Grumman leverage video to their advantage.
For each relevant product story, I collaborated with the Northrop Grumman team to develop short, 30-second “vignettes”. Each vignette would use dynamic video or animation to tell a high-level, mission-focused story of what Northrop Grumman provides their customer. Each story concluded with a customer benefit statement, meant to peak interest and encourage attendees to discover more.
In three years, I art directed over 30 vignettes,
building a robust video library to be leveraged at any event. The process involved:
In pairing with a new video-leaning storytelling strategy, the team at RES developed new exhibit properties to make a show-stopping statement. At AUSA, Northrop’s largest domestic event, vignettes were featured on a custom-shaped 33’ wide LED display, dominating the show floor. Vignettes were queued together to make larger video loops within the exhibit, giving each subject matter expert and their product a moment to shine on the big screen.
RES continuously proves that they are an invaluable partner. Not only do they put forward creative ideas, but they know how to make those ideas become reality. We’re thrilled to continue our long-standing relationship and can’t wait to see what the next 10 years has in store.
