BRAND DEVELOPMENT CASE STUDY
BUSY BEE MARKET
With the opening of a new lakeside grocery and café in the famous New York Finger Lakes region, Busy Bee Market was looking to establish a brand that gave nod to the rich history of their location on the lake, while maintaining a fun, seasonal vibe to attract both locals and tourists alike.

LOGO STUDY & STYLEBOARD
CONCEPTING //
During the initial design phase, I like to create 3 concepts that are 120-degrees apart from one another. This approach provides a full spectrum of design execution to the initial brief. For Busy Bee Market, this allowed me to explore both traditional and playful approaches to the primary identity for the brand.

BRAND APPLICATION //
While the rich nautical history of the Busy Bee was well represented in the primary identity, the application of the logo throughout the store, café and lakefront property became secondary to the spirit of the brand.
Sketch illustrations, hand written fonts, and checkerboard accents helped establish the Busy Bee as a fun, picnic-by-the-water, down-to-earth place to enjoy the beauty of Cayuga Lake.

Over a 4-year span, the Busy Bee Market expanded into new revenue streams of private events, vacation rentals, and a yoga studio, in addition to the market and café . Throughout the process, we allowed the brand style to adapt as the business changed, embracing the history of “The Bee”, yet remaining fresh for customers.
